Joe LoCicero’s, from Marysville, Ohio, drove his 1990 Honda Accord to 1 million miles - on original engine. What's his secret? Regular maintenance, high quality parts and safe driving.
Yes, he's got a parade and a new car, but the main question is - how much is this guy driving a year? 1990 is long gone and he had some miles on the car, but 1,000,000?? It turns out - he drives on average 48,000 miles per year. (For those of you who were raised in metric, it's 77,248km). That's 6,437km per month, which comes up to about 210-260km per day (depending if he misses a day here or there).
My car shows that average speed is 40km/h, which is probably true - I drive more in the city. Let's say he drives more on the highway, so the average would be 50km/h (he's a safe driver). This would mean that on average he spends 4-5 hours in the car, if he drives 6 out of 7 days a week! I don't know about you, but it seems like a lot of time to be spending behind the wheel, unless he has the car on a treadmill.
