Main Walter Walter's Theories We live in a matrix

We live in a matrix

Walter claims that we live in a matrix, controlled by aliens or some other kind of more intelligent life. Most of our actions (down to what we wear and how often we brush our teeth) have been pre-programmed and we are living a scripted life. As such, it is hard to change it's course. Even though we believe that we are free to do what we want, its only an illusion. Dramatic changes in our lives will lead to suffering and overall anxiety of the individual or individuals around (you are disrupting their course as well). That's why bad guys always stay bad guys, alcoholics always stay alcoholics (even though some of them are trying hard to quit) and so on.

Like everything else, the matrix is not perfect. It has bugs and problems:

  • Déjà vu (also called paramnesia - the delusional belief that a place or location has been duplicated, existing in two or more places simultaneously, or that it has been 'relocated' to another site.) Walter claims it is more of a feature - not a bug
  • Living on a street called "Ontario", then neighbourhood named "Ontario" and then moving to province of "Ontario" is a bug in a Matrix (Walter's personal example)
  • UFO sightings

The theory is that the matrix is controlled by something like the "Bilderberg Group", who control the big wheels, which in turn control us.

Just because it's a matrix, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's bad. Like everything else, it has goals, and those goals may be noble. Imagine a society that can live eternally, have cured all ills and conquered the outer space. They are stuck with a problem - their sun is going to burn out (an example - it can be any other problem). How do you solve that problem? You need a fresh thinking and a new approach.

When Albert Einstein and Robert Oppenheimer were discussing a very difficult problem in theoretical physics one of them turned to the other and said: I would think that a 14 year old boy may be able to solve our problem. Our brains are too predictable because of culture, education, habits and other factors, as a result, we can no longer "think outside the box" (although many people claim they can). A new approach to the problem is needed in order to solve the problem. Our existence may be the reason why this matrix was created - the forces behind it are using us to solve their problems, based on our approaches.

The theory is not new, but its the one I tend to agree with - to some extent.

@anon: yeah, I was all over the place when I wrote that and it was a result of some observation at the time of writing (I don't remember what it was now).
I don't necessarily believe anymore that our lives are scripted to such details. We can change it's course, but we have a path overall that we follow and as long as we don't deviate too far, it stays the same.

Well, you got some thoughts here, taken out of some sort of context, but it doesn't really explain anything. "Dramatic changes in our lives will lead to suffering and overall anxiety of the individual or individuals around (you are disrupting their course as well)." What do you mean by that? It sounds more like bible preaching. I guess it would make my family uncomfortable if I all of the sudden quit my job, but you don't have to live in a matrix for that to happen :-)

I do like the idea of a noble society.

I think to some degree, we do live in a matrix. I am not sure we are sleeping being fed intravenously in a plant, but perhaps, we are a part of a "grand scheme of things" or some elaborate master plan.

It's hard to describe who Walter is - you have to know him. Here's a short description:
