Old coins

I've always been fascinated with coins, for several reasons:

There's a lot of history behind them
They are shiny (in most cases)
They go up in value (generally)

So when I have more time, I want to start a coin collection. Right now I'm too busy collecting modern money from my employer and no matter how hard I try my collection is not increasing - in value or amount.
